Houston, TX, September 19, 2024—Cenikor, a leading nonprofit behavioral health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment network serving over 14,000 patients a year, proudly hosted Houston Mayor John Whitmire today at The Briar Club for its “Well Beyond Recovery” Luncheon. The event highlighted the ongoing efforts to address substance use disorder and its broader social impacts within the Houston community.
During his keynote address, Mayor Whitmire outlined the pressing challenges associated with addiction in Houston, including the increased demands on police, emergency medical services, and other critical resources. He emphasized the city’s commitment to supporting those living with substance use disorder and their families, detailing several new policies aimed at enhancing support and resources.
Mayor Whitmire also lauded Cenikor for its pivotal role in empowering recovery. He noted that as a nonprofit organization, Cenikor is uniquely positioned to offer affordable, high-quality treatment to those in need, thereby expanding access to crucial recovery services across the city.
“Cenikor’s dedication to providing comprehensive and accessible treatment is a vital part of our strategy to help Houstonians with substance use disorder have better, fuller lives,” said Mayor Whitmire. “Their work not only supports individuals and families but strengthens our entire community.”
For 57 years, Cenikor has been at the forefront of behavioral healthcare. The nonprofit believes in affordable, accessible treatment for all. Through evidence-based programs and integrated levels of care, Cenikor is able to help over 14,000 people a year. Around 75% of Cenikor’s clients receive treatment through grants, scholarships, and charity care.
The luncheon served as a platform to discuss collaborative efforts and celebrate the recovery. Attendees were inspired by the Mayor’s vision for a more resilient and supportive community, as well as Cenikor’s innovative approaches to recovery and treatment.
